Biography

Raymund Ocampo is a conductor with experience leading choirs of different age levels and talents. He is equally comfortable directing youth choirs, symphonic choruses, and high-level ensembles.

Raymund will begin his appointment as Music Faculty and Director of Choral Studies at Linn-Benton Community College in Fall 2015. At Linn-Benton, he will conduct 2 vocal ensembles and teach courses in Music Appreciation, Theory and Music Fundamentals.

With the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, Raymund Ocampo served as the Bonita L. Bass Memorial Assistant Conductor. He prepared the Master Chorale for performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, An Evening with Rodgers and Hammerstein, Faure's Requiem and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.  Ocampo has prepared choruses for symphonic conductors Michael Francis, Evan Rogister, Earl Rivers, Joshua Weilerstein, Jeff Tyzik, Stuart Malina, and Danail Rachav. In 2014 he had the honor of conducting a performance of the Master Chorale's Christmas Carol Competition Winner on The Florida Orchestra's Holiday Pops Concert Series. Ocampo has also assisted the Master Chorale in their self-produced concert, Upon These Shores.

Raymund Ocampo founded and served as artistic director of 'ascend'. With 'ascend', he programmed, managed operations, and conducted the “ascend: fusion” series. 'ascend' was a paid 8-member vocal ensemble dedicated to performing new works in a unique way. Eight new choral works from Cincinnati composers were commissioned and premiered during his tenure. Ocampo developed innovative concert projects that involved the composer speaking to the audience about their work, the audience learning about a singing/composition technique and experiencing it themselves, and a performance of the work.  An original project titled, "Redux/Remix," included symphonic works that were 'reduced' for 8 voices and subsequently remixed with a collaborative rapper or band.

As Director of Music at Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, OH, Raymund Ocampo led the adult, youth, and children's choirs. At Mt. Washington he directed the adult choirs and orchestra in performances of Haydn's Nelsonmesse, Rutter's Requiem, Faure's Requiem, Bach's Christ Lag in Todesbanden, and Handel’s Messiah-Part the First. He also led Sacre Voci in performances of Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb and Vasks’ Dona Nobis Pacem.  In 2010, the MWPC Chancel Choir was invited and sang at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY under the direction of Dr. Earl Rivers.

Prior to his work at Mt. Washington, Raymund Ocampo led public school choral programs in Ohio and Indiana. He directed choirs and taught general music at all levels, from elementary through high school.

In June of 2014, Raymund Ocampo was one of three conductors selected to participate in Chorus America's Conducting Masterclass, directing the Singing Sergeants of the US Air Force under the guidance of Dr. Anton Armstrong and John Alexander. In February of 2014, he participated in Toronto Mendelssohn Choir's Conductor Symposium. During this week-long symposium, he conducted the Elora Festival Singers and Toronto Mendelssohn Chorale in rehearsals and concert under the tutelage of Noel Edison. During the summer of 2012, he was one of eight conductors chosen to participate in Seraphic Fire's Professional Choral Institute-Conducting Program, where he participated in rehearsals and masterclasses with Dr. James Bass and Patrick Dupré Quigley.

Raymund Ocampo received a Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of South Florida under the guidance of Dr. James Bass. He received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where he studied with Dr. René Clausen and Dr. Paul Nesheim.
