Want to be a success? Want to meet your academic goals? Think TIME MANAGEMENT. School (and life) is made easier when you make and follow a Fixed Commitment Weekly Calendar each term.
- To truly help you stay on track, your weekly schedule needs to include ALL your fixed commitments: class times, study times (indicate which class those study blocks are for), work times, commuting times, and even perhaps meals or scheduled family time. Color code commitments.
- Don't forget that "soft" items (like study times for each class) are on this weekly schedule so you can make sure they happen in time. Color code them a paler shade than their corresponding class, maybe. Though every class is different, the rule of thumb is this: To predict how much study time per class you will need, multiply weekly hours in that class by 2 or 3. (For example, a 3 credit class usually meets 3 hours per week, so 6 or 9 hours of study per week is likely.) Note: Some classes, like math, might need even 3 times the study time.
- Make a copy of the schedule for each class notebook. Maybe a copy of your weekly schedule also goes on the refridgerator? And on the wall next to your alarm clock? Instead of putting in class notebooks, maybe you want the weekly schedule taped to your free LBCC monthly planner (for oddball or unfixed commitments, like doctor's appointments, dinners with grandma, or parent-teacher conferences). Remember to carrry that monthly planner each day.
