About Me

I am a doctoral student at Boise State University in the Educational Technology department, where I work as a graduate assistant. I also have an M.S. Education -- Information Technology from Western Oregon and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing: Fiction from the University of Oregon, where my master's thesis was part of a novel on a 1960s Mennonite community dealing with an intercontinental ballistic missile being stationed nearby. So I know something about missiles. My B.A. is from the University of Kansas, where I studied English and Political Science, but I did four years of work at American University in Washington, D.C. studying journalism before that. So I know something about politics and about well-played college basketball and about majors that will hardly guarantee a life of riches and fame. I'm originally from the dead center of Kansas and now live in Eugene.

My publications include a host of political pieces at Salon and its related sites and a brief non-fiction piece in the Penguin Classics/Union of Concerned Scientists anthology Thoreau's Legacy. To find out more about my professional presentations and publications, please visit my website (
