I started my teaching career before I became an RN. I have been a licensed massage practitioner for 21 years. I developed a massage therapy certification program approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage. The program included study in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, massage history, massage modalities, indications/contraindications and business essentials. I have also been an equine bodyworker for 14 years.
I have been an RN for 7 years. I started my career working for the American Red Cross in blood banking, automated donation of platelet and plasma and later working with stage IV prostate cancer patients on leukopheresis donations. I then started working with chronic kidney patients on hemodialysis and then home therapy peritoneal dialysis patients. I have also been a Nephrology Clinical Specialist with a pharmaceutical company providing erythropoietin stimulating agent education to dialysis units.
Teaching massage therapy allowed me to find my passion for teaching and mentoring my students. It has been my goal since I have become an RN to make my way into education in hopes to make a positive impact on our future nurses. I am also currently pursuing my Masters in Nursing Education.
I spend my free time hiking and exploring Oregon with my husband. I also am an avid equestrian and spend 4-5 days per week riding and training my 7 year old Andalusian mare.
